Over the years the Groves family and KM Construction (North Wales) Ltd have become synonymous within the building and civil engineering world, a benchmark for excellence and never opposed to meeting the needs of an ever-demanding industry.

Thirty years ago directors Kenneth Groves and his wife Barbara formed KM Construction in St Asaph and began a main core business which encompassed building and civil engineering contracts which have proved the launch-pad to an even wider portfolio.

Early contracts were an indication of the company’s future success. From the maintenance contract for Shell UK on the North Wales Pipeline, Anglesey to Stanlow, to the provision of terracing at Hedingley Rugby Stadium in Leeds, KM cut its business teeth for bigger things to come. Now with the management and expertise KM has firmly established themselves as a leading building and civil engineering contractor. With expansion has come changes and diversity.

As time progressed our list of clients became more than just impressive; Welsh Water, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Conwy, Wrexham County Councils, Honeywell, Qioptiq, BHP Billiton, The Welsh Development Assembly, NHS Trusts, to name but a few – all recognising the quality, reliability and expertise to be found at KM Construction. We are registered on Construction Line, Achillies, are members of the Civil Engineering Contractors Association, and Quality Assurance certified to ISO 9001: 2000.

The management team, led actively by Kenneth and Barbara and their senior estimator and manager for over 21 years, Glyn Jones, has been joined by sons Andrew (Engineer), Christopher, (contracts manager) and Michael, (manager, KM Environmental Ltd(. Also maintaining the family theme, twin brothers Jim and John Groves, both site foremen of the company, sharing between them over 80 years experience in the industry.

Ever mindful of the need to encompass within its many services and environmental element, KM's parent company had already instigated a policy of reprocessing and recycling. With government and local authority directives encouraging the recycling of materials, KM decided the time was ripe to put into operation a scheme to relocate the recycling centre to new premises adjacent to the A55 between St Asaph and Rhuallt.

As the construction industry in general, building companies and local authorities face reduced tipping facilities, lack of recycling centres and more aggregate, quarry and tip taxes, the need for additional alternative solutions are essential. Extensive research by KM and with the knowledge of their own problems and those of others in the construction industry, the solution was clear. Offer modern facilities to take in materials to be graded and crushed into useable hardcore for sale back to the industry.

Now KM Environmental Ltd, under the personal management of Michael Groves, is offering a range of facilities backed by new, latest technology crushers and screeners. For KM Environmental Ltd and it’s parent company the future remains high profile, committed also to a business future which goes hand in hand with expansion and a policy of providing environmentally friendly services.
